Give back to the Forest

As someone who lives on Fruška Gora, near the national park itself, I am well aware of how destructive both uncontrolled and controlled logging can be in our “country.” Did you know that Serbia has lost over 74,000 hectares of forest in the past two decades? That’s more than seven hundred and forty million square meters! Did you know that in the past two years, logging has more than doubled compared to previous years? They cut like Orcs in Isengard under Saruman’s orders.*
When it comes to reforestation, we are among the worst in Europe. Every year, the rate of reforestation decreases. They cut as if there is no tomorrow. Uproot. Export. This must be stopped. Also, considering that wood is the raw material I use, even before I had access to these alarming statistics, I felt responsible to give something back to nature, to the forest from which I take.

With that in mind, I decided that for every piece of furniture I sell, I will plant one sapling of the same tree species used to make that piece. I can do it myself, or you can join. Planting will begin at the end of the year at the ReWild Center in Lapovo, which recently suffered from an arson fire, and later on at other locations.
